On May 31, 2011, the author of http://www.tourniquets.org was awarded an honorary D.Sc. degree by the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada. The honor recognized the author’s significant contributions in reducing patient injuries and patient hazards by improving the safety of surgical tourniquet systems, and his contributions in developing improved and more cost-effective tourniquet technologies for the future.
The honorary D.Sc. degree from U.B.C. was the author’s second: In 2009 he was awarded an honorary D.Sc. degree from Simon Fraser University, again citing his successful improvements in tourniquet safety and performance, reducing patient injuries, improving surgical quality and reducing costs, and his ongoing stream of tourniquet-related innovations.
